The student shooter who opened fire with a shotgun inside Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo., in the Littleton school district, was killed by a self-inflicted gunshot, according to a law enforcement official who spoke at a press conference.

Police said they know the identity of the suspect, but will not yet release it. Two students were injured in the shooting, which began in the school’s cafeteria around 12:30 p.m. Friday. One of those victims did suffer from a serious gunshot wound and both have been transported to a hospital. The shooter was believed to be targeting a specific teacher who was able to leave the scene unharmed, according to Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson. Police said they plan to search the shooter’s home.

All schools in the Littleton area were on lockdown. Many students had already fled to safety and are being reunited with their parents at a nearby location.

The incident happened just one day before the first anniversary of the deadly Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings during which gunman Adam Lanza killed 26 people before turning the gun on himself.

Littleton is the Colorado town where the 1999 Columbine High School massacre took place. Arapahoe High is eight miles from that school.
