VIDEO: Dad begs Facebook to release dead son’s Look Back video

For many, Facebook’s new Look Back video feature is just a fun way to pass the time for a minute. But for John Berlin, it’s a peek back into the life of his son, Jesse, who died on Jan. 28, 2012.

Berlin begged Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to let him and his wife see his son’s video. He posted “My appeal to Facebook on YouTube” and made an emotional plea to the social media company to give him access to his son’s account. He asked viewers, “You ever do something crazy because you just don’t know what to do anymore? Well that’s what I’m doing right now.”

Berlin praised the Look Back feature: “You’ve been putting out these new movies, these one-minute movies that everyone has been sharing, and I think they’re great. … All we want to do is see his movie. That’s it.” Berlin broke down and paused a few times, and asked viewers to share the video. His prayers were answered: The video spread like wildfire thanks to Redditors, and Facebook is now creating the video for Berlin, according to PIX11.

“We have people working on it now,” Facebook spokesman Jonathan Thaw told PIX11. Thaw said the video will be ready either tonight or tomorrow.

Facebook released the Look Back videos to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary. The videos capture users’ most-liked posts and photos from over the years.
