Let Zimmerman trial unite, not divide us
Re: ‘Long live morality in the US!’ (Metro, July 23)
Letter writer Kevin Metz’s statement that “there is nothing wrong with defending yourself” is correct.
Unfortunately, the positions of both liberals and conservatives were rigidly locked in place. I don’t think Mr. Zimmerman set out that day to kill a young man.
But I also think that he was caught up in the attitudes and fears underlying the “stand your ground” law. But, those six women had no choice but to acquit him.
The prosecutor simply did not make a case. If the trial and its fallout showed nothing else, it showed that we’re all racist in a one way or another, whether we watch FOX or MSNBC.
Justice should bring liberals and conservatives together on the issues of race and poverty and move beyond the sound bites.
