Letters: Congress is doing what it’s supposed to do
Re: ‘Shut down the GOP lies’ (Metro, Oct. 4-6)
It’s sad in this day and age with the Internet at our fingertips that letter writer Matthew Miller assumes the “conservative blogosphere” is lying about government shutdowns. A quick Google search would have prevented you from looking ignorant. Do some research before making your accusations, because there indeed have been 18 government shutdowns since 1976, most occurring under Reagan and Carter. They’ve lasted anywhere from 1 to 21 days.

Mr. Miller is obviously a victim of the dumbing-down of our school system, otherwise he would know that Congress’ job is to enact bills and create budgets. If Americans knew about the ridiculousness of the ACA bill, they would have demanded it be defeated. With over 60 percent of Americans opposed to the law and our president trying to raise borrowing limits rather than control spending to meet his demands, it is up to Congress to counter his far-left liberal ways. That is how our government works, Mr. Miller, with checks and balances.
