Letter: Give Congress a taste of its own medicine
Re: ‘Don’t get greedy for power, Mr. President’ (Metro, Jan. 31 to Feb. 2)
What the letter writer in Friday’s Metro fails to realize is that you have one branch of government that is not working for the people they are paid to serve. Instead, they are holding the country hostage by putting a stop to any kind of legislation that may help the majority of the people in this country. I say let the president do his executive orders; if they are unconstitutional, the only branch of government that can do something in Washington, the judicial branch, can deal with it.
In the meantime, my suggestion for an executive order would be to reduce those six-figure salaries most congressmen and senators make to the current $7.25 an hour that minimum-wage workers get until they accomplish something — or better yet, give them unemployment for six months, since that’s what they would be making as private sector employees who accomplish nothing besides ignoring their employers (us).
