Letter: Putin on a bad show
Most of us are too young to remember the 1936 summer Olympics held in Nazi Germany. Hitler saw these games as a chance to show the world what a supreme race could do, not only on the field but also in governance. Luckily for the world there was a young man participating in the games named Jesse Owens. Jesse was an African-American track athlete who walked away from the event with four gold medals, outperforming every other athlete at the games that year and disproving Hitler’s backward theories of race supremacy.
As of late, Putin has taken his new-found Olympic stardom to promote hatred and violence against homosexuals. Also, only under the threat of looking like a total tyrant to the world he recently released a few political dissidents that he had been imprisoning illegally. Let us not support this man and his grab for power. Let us not buy into the politics that are being sewn into the games.
