Massachusetts got its first official snow of the season Sunday in the form of a Nor’easter that also brought rain and strong winds to the region.

Thousands were without power by mid-morning, mostly along South Coast. As of 2:30 p.m., NSTAR was reportingabout 7,241 power outages, and National grid’s outage map showed about 1,300 customers were affected.

In some areas, high winds caused downed trees andpower lines. Massachusetts On Twitter, State Police warned motorists to “take it slow,” and reported a spin out on Rte. 128 southbound near Exit 18.

The storm was expected to taper of by the afternoon, according to to the National Weather Service, which reported a nearly 2-inch snow accumulation just south of Boston.

The Nor’easterhits the Boston-area just as the New England Patriots prepare to face off against the Denver Broncos. The Patriots tweeted a photograph of a snowy Gillette Stadium with the caption, ” Snow’s coming down at @GilletteStadium right now… #DENvsNE #ThisIsOurHouse.”
