An 8-year-old boy was killed by a cow on his father’s Georgetown property Saturday.

A statement from the Essex District Attorney’s office to the Boston Herald explained the boy was “exercising” a herd of cattle with his father just before 1 p.m. when “one of the cows apparently spooked and trampled the boy,”

The boy was taken to Anna Jacques Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to WCVB, the father was also injured. He raises about two dozen cattle on his property for beef purposes.

Authorities are investigating the incident though no foul play is suspected.
