Police are asking for the public’s help to find a man who sexually assaulted a woman walking around Jamaica Pond Thursday night. 

The woman told authorities she was walking around the pond with a companion when an unknown man approached her and indecently assaulted her. He then promptly left, police said. 

The victim described the suspect as a black man, 250 to 300 pounds, approximately 6 feet tall with a beard. He was wearing a baseball hat, grey t-shirt and long pants, she said. 

The Boston Police Department’s sexual assault unit is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (617) 343-4400. You can also leave an anonymous tip at (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word “TIP” to CRIME (27463). 

The department’s statement about the attack also emphasized that victims of sexual assault who would feel more comfortable seeking confidential advice from a non-government agency can always do so by contacting the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center at 1 (800) 841-8371
