Police chiefs from Bedford, Billerica and Concord are warning locals about a snow removal scam that is targeting seniors.

A group of men from Maine, according to police, are suspected of conning elderly and ill residents out of thousands by offering them snow removal services.

The scams typically unfold like this: the men offer to remove snow from someone’s property, then do a minimal amount of work, then get aggressive and try to coerce the resident into paying them thousands.

“Always be on guard when someone you do not know knocks on your door offering services,” Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno said. “Demand to see their proof of insurance and business license, and never pay cash.”
