Family saved from fire by stranger

A dramatic fire nearly took the lives of a family in Spencer late Tuesday evening, but a mystery woman barged into their home and saved them.

“All the sudden, I heard someone run into my house telling us to ‘get out of the house, get out of the house,’” Chantelle Ricard, one of the family members saved by the woman told WHDH Boston. Ricard explained that she quickly grabbed her 2-year-old daughter, woke up her mother, and escaped from the home with them. “We ran out and just saw the whole garage up in flames.”

Several other families in the multi-family house were also at home and escaped the fire as well.

The fire, which started in a barn connected to the main house, had engulfed the barn by the time firefighters had arrived.

“Our main focus was to try to save the house,” Fire Chief Robert Parsons told WHDH.

One firefighter reportedly suffered injuries to his face.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, which they believe to be suspicious.
