The Bruins fell to the Leafs in Toronto Saturday night.

For the first time this season, the Bruins had an entire week that they would like to forget. Boston (20-7-3) wrapped up a brutal four-game road trip (1-3-0) with a 3-2 loss Saturday at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto (17-12-3).

Boston had won eight straight games against the Maple Leafs but they fell behind 3-0 before rallying with a pair of goals in the third period but time ran out.

The strange part was that the B’s dominated in shots on goal (33-13) but backup goaltender Anton Khudobin was pulled after the third tally, the first time Boston head coach Claude Julien has done that in 2013. Nazem Kadri scored for Toronto in the first period, followed two seconds later by a fight between Shawn Thornton and Colton Orr (a former Bruin). Mikhail Grabovski doubled the Leafs’ lead in the second period then Khudobin allowed a rare soft goal to Frazer McLaren and Julien had seen enough. Tuukka Rask made a cameo appearance for 16:52 after sitting out most of the past two games.

Boston had some life as Dennis Seidenberg scored on a snap shot early in the third period then Andrew Ference beat James Reimer (31 saves) with a slap shot at 18:44. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough time left for the Bruins’ comeback attempt. Lack of scoring punch (6 goals in 4 games) killed Boston as their margin for error is way too thin at the moment for their goalies, not to mention with defensemen Johnny Boychuk and Adam McQuaid both out tonight.
The Bruins will get another crack at the Maple Leafs on Monday (7 p.m., NESN) at TD Garden. Then they host the Canadiens on Wednesday, two huge Northeast Division games.
