With the first round of the NFL Draft a month away, the Jets are visiting college pro days and lining up several prospects for workouts.

Metro New York has learned general manager John Idzik attended the pro day at North Carolina on Tuesday where he saw top prospects such as guard Jonathan Cooper and running back Gio Bernard go through workouts. In addition, Metro has learned offensive line coach Mike Devlin attended Tuesday’s pro day at Louisiana Tech. Last year, the program had an exciting wide receiver in Myles White, plus offensive linemen Jordan Mills and Oscar Johnson, both of whom had NFL Combine invites.

A league source tells Metro New York the Jets are looking at two under-the-radar quarterbacks and will be bringing in Monmouth’s Kyle Frazier and Miami (Ohio)’s Zac Dysert for private workouts. It is Dysert who is most intriguing, as he topped 3,000 yards passing in each of the last two seasons for a Miami team that was short on playmakers. At 6-foot-4 and 228 pounds, Dysert has prototypical size and arm strength, and the league source said he could be a good fit in new offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s West Coast offense.

Coming off a strong Pro Day, Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet, who transferred from Hofstra when the Pride closed shop on their football program, will also have a private workout with the Jets, according to the source. With times in the 40-yard dash of 4.65 seconds and then 4.62 seconds, Maysonet impressed in his Pro Day and his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield is potentially ideal for the West Coast offense.

On the special teams front, the Jets will bring in UCLA long snapper Kevin McDermott and Temple kicker Brandon McManus for workouts. An All-Big East Second Team selection last year, McManus left the Owls as their all-time leading scorer and made 82.4 percent of his field goal attempts last season. According to NFLDraftScout.com, he is the No. 4 kicker in the draft.

Sources tell Metro that defensive end Travis Chappelear, a Northwest Missouri product who transferred from Missouri State, will have a private workout with the team on April 6.

Also as reported by Metro last week, the Jets have private workouts coming up with Sierra College wide receiver Courtney Gardner and Eastern Kentucky cornerback Justin Bell.
