As of Thursday, the Red Sox owned a one game lead over the Yankees in the AL East. Boston heads to the Bronx this weekend to take on their arch-rivals for the first time since the opening series of its 2013 season.
Jon Lester (6-1, 3.34 ERA) meets C.C. Sabathia (4-4, 3.96 ERA) Friday (7 p.m., NESN) to kick off the three-game set and Felix Doubront (3-2, 5.29 ERA) gets the nod for the Sox Saturday on national TV (7 p.m., FOX), going head-to-head with Phil Hughes (2-3, 4.97 ERA).
The returning Clay Buchholz (7-0, 1.73 ERA) and Hiroki Kuroda (6-3, 2.39 ERA) close things out Sunday night (8 p.m., ESPN). The Yankees don’t make their first visit of 2013 to Fenway Park until July 19, the first game for both teams after the MLB All-Star break.
