David Stern may nix Celtics-Clippers trade
In a week filled with snags surrounding a proposed trade that would send Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to the Clippers, officials in the league office are now throwing another wrench into the works.
ESPN reported Thursday that NBA officials have “serious misgivings” about the potential trade because Garnett and Rivers may be moved in a “package deal.” The proposed deal would likely violate NBA rules which prohibit side deals in trades. Boston and LA were looking for loopholes Thursday to finalize the deal, ESPN sources said.
NBA commissioner David Stern appeared on Stephen A. Smith’s radio show in New York Thursday and made it clear that the Celtics and Clippers have their work cut out for them if they are to convince the league that the trade is on the up-and-up.
“If you think those [deals], at this point having been all over the media for the last week, are separate transactions, when you get back from Miami, Stephen A., I have a bridge that I would very much enjoy selling to you,” Stern said.
