Lester gets job done before leaving with hip injury

The last thing the Red Sox need is another injury to one of their starting pitchers, but Jon Lester gave them a bit of a scare.

Lester pitched seven innings for the Red Sox in their 7-4 win over the Blue Jays before leaving in the eighth inning after landing awkwardly after a pitch.

Up to the seventh inning, he had allowed just two runs, but two runners he left on base upon leaving in the eighth inning scored. Lester’s final line: 7.0 innings, 5 hits, 4 earned runs,  3 walks, 5 strikeouts.

He did more than enough to earn the win, as the Red Sox scored seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. Dustin Pedroia homered and every batter recorded at least one hit except Mike Carp, who did get on base with a walk.

Toronto had won 14 of it’s last 16 games before dropping it’s last three out of four to the Rays and Sox.

The Red Sox or Lester didn’t seem too concerned about the hip after the game.

Blue Jays starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang was chased after just 1.2 innings after allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks.
