Great Britain’s 77-year drought at Wimbledon is over.

Scotland’s Andy Murray defeated Novak Djokavic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 to claim his first Wimbledon title and second major. He won last year’s U.S. Open. He also won the Gold medal at last year’s London Olympics on the very same court he won Sunday.

Fred Perry won Britain’s last Wimbledon title in 1936 before Winston Churchill was even leading the country.

Murray cruised to the first set victory and took a dominating two-set lead after falling behind 4-1. He had to battle just as hard for the last set. Djokovic broke Murray twice and led 4-2, before Murray twice broke Djokovic to take the lead at 5-4. He served for the title and managed to battle an epic last point to earn the win.

He led 40-0 in the final point and had four championship points as the two battled back and forth at deuce.

“I really have no idea what happened,” Murray said of the final game to the laughs of the raucous crowd.

The tournament final took place on one of the hottest days of the year in London. The temperature soared into to 90 degrees as the two battled for hours on Centre Court.
