Peavy dominates Dodgers in Red Sox’ convincing win

The Red Sox’ six-game West Coast trip this week was highlighted by the terrific performances from their starting rotation and it was capped off by Jake Peavy’s complete game in their 8-1 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles Sunday night. The Red Sox took two-of-three from the red-hot Dodgers over the weekend.

Peavy threw a complete game, allowing one run on just three hits while striking out five. He was in control of all of his pitches and it was by far his best outing since joining the Sox at the trade deadline as he picked up his second win in a Red Sox uniform. The one run he allowed came in the fourth when Adrian Gonzalez crushed a solo home run to center field.

Offensively the Red Sox scored runs in six of the nine innings, including three home runs. Dustin Pedroia led the Sox with three hits, while Shane Victorino, Mike Napoli and Xander Bogaerts added two hits in the win. Victorino, Napoli and Jarrod Saltalamacchia all homered in the 12-hit attack.

The Red Sox will now return home to host the Orioles beginning Tuesday night (7:07, NESN) where Felix Doubront will take on Wei-Yin Chen.

What they’ll be saying: It was a very successful road trip for the Red Sox which saw them go 4-2, led by their starting pitching. Red Sox starters posted a 1.17 ERA in the six games on the trip and no one allowed more than two runs in any start, including allowing one run or fewer five times … Just a few weeks ago the Red Sox didn’t have anyone really making a strong case to be their lead pitcher in a playoff series. Now, Jon Lester, John Lackey and now Peavy have put themselves into that conversation, all pitching very well of late.
