Barry Sanders Jr. channels his father in highlight-reel run

Maybe you’ve heard of Barry Sanders. Short guy, played for the Lions, most exciting player in NFL history?

Yeah, well we have good news for YouTube-compilation makers everywhere. He has a son who plays for Stanford and he’s also really, really good at making Top-10 lists — at least through two games.

Barry Sanders Jr. is a sophomore for the fifth-ranked Cardinal, but he didn’t play as a freshman and he got just one touch in his college debut in Week 1 against San Jose State.

But it took him just his second career touch to make his first highlight-reel play. You’ll see it above.

Sanders caught a little screen pass in the backfield, took it up field and made defender Cyrus Coen look like a total fool with an incredible cut against the grain. Coen will not be forgetting that anklebreaker.

As the game got out of hand (Stanford won 55-17), Sanders further impressed. He had three carries for 34 yards and a touchdown in addition to that one reception for 16 yards.

Sanders was a four-star recruit out of Oklahoma City, where he spurned his father’s alma mater Oklahoma State to head west. He chose Stanford over Alabama, so you know the kid has some guts to turn down Nick Saban and the two-time defending champions.

He already got fans salivating coast-to-coast with his high school highlight reels.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound running back is actually bigger than his Hall of Fame father, who was just 5-foot-8.

Oh, and yes, we’re going to show you a Barry Sanders Sr. highlight reel. Don’t you worry.
