Jackson: Revis can’t ‘run with me’

DeSean Jackson, Darrelle Revis
DeSean Jackson thinks Darrelle Revis is an excellent cornerback, just not as fast as he is.

DeSean ready for Bucs corner

Before anyone blows this out of proportion, remember that the kid was just saying he’s fast. That’s an indisputable fact, too.

Still, quite a few heads turned Tuesday afternoon when DeSean Jackson mentioned that he doesn’t think Darrelle Revis can run with him. Notice, Jackson said run, not cover.

“We played him when we played at the Jets, two years ago or whenever we played them. He followed me as well,” Jackson said. “I’m definitely sure his coaches are confident in him. I don’t think he can run with me. I don’t think he’s as fast as me. It will be a challenge. He’s a great player. Nothing to take away from him.”

Jackson is always the picture of confidence. He went on to say that he doesn’t think anyone can keep up with him in a one-on-one battle. For the record, the last time Jackson faced Revis, in 2011, the Eagles receiver was held to 28 yards on two catches.

After that game, Revis paid Jackson a compliment.

“He was like, ‘You’re too fast, slow down,’” Jackson said.

Most teams bring a safety over the top to brace themselves for Jackson’s incredible speed. Last week, in New York, the Giants went mostly man-coverage with one deep safety. The previous week, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie did a nice job on him. Either way, it should be a healthy battle Sunday between Jackson and Revis, one of the best corners in the NFL.

“He’s one of those guys who knows what he’s doing,” Jackson said, of Revis. “We’re not going to make it into a one-on-one battle, me versus Revis. It’s the Eagles versus Tampa Bay. At the end of that game, as long as we’re winning, that’s all that matters to me.”

Vick making progress with hamstring

Despite a report Monday claiming that Mike Vick was out for Sunday’s game, the quarterback trotted out to the practice field Tuesday.

He was only a limited participant in the session, but seeing him throw some passes made many wonder if his strained hamstring was healing ahead of schedule.

“It’s early, just trying to get myself back into a flow, back into a rhythm, get my legs up under me,” Vick said.

He’s officially listed as day-to-day. Nick Foles took the first-team reps at Tuesday’s practice.
