Kellen Winslow blows off reporters after Jets beat Falcons

The Jets picked up their biggest win of the season Monday night, but that wasn’t enough to put Kellen Winslow in a good mood.

The Jets tight end, who had a 1-yard touchdown catch in the win, refused comment in the locker room after the game.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith admitted in his postgame comments that Winslow had been “frustrated” throughout the game. When asked for his reaction, Winslow delivered a brusque message to reporters.

“I don’t think that would be a good choice,” Winslow said.

Winslow was targeted just once in the game — the crucial 1-yard touchdown catch with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter which put the Jets on top 27-14.

Part of offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg’s game plan was clearly to utilize the tight ends, but it was Jeff Cumberland who benefited over Winslow. Cumberland finished with three receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown on four targets. The fourth-year tight end had been targeted just four times combined in the previous four games this season.

But Winslow, who has a history of locker room blowups in his career dating back to his college career at Miami (Fla.), did not practice much this week with a knee injury. He wasn’t guaranteed to even be active for the game.

Winslow has 17 catches for 169 yards and two touchdowns this season. He was targeted nine times and had six catches for 73 yards last week in Tennessee.
