Friends and family gathered at the Hockessin (Del.) PAL Center Saturday morning to show support to loved ones as the Delaware 87ers held their final tryout to determine who gets invited to a private workout.

The 87ers, or the Sevens, is the NBADL affiliate for the Sixers. The new franchise will officially begin its inaugural season on Nov. 23 in Canton, Ohio.

There were 93 players in attendance Saturday, including former Temple standout Dustin Salisbery. He played at Temple for four years, under both coach John Chaney and Fran Dunphy (2003-2007).

“It’s a great experience,” Salisbery said. “I know the Sixers are a great organization with a new team. It’s something I’d like to pursue.”

Sevens GM Brandon Williams is looking to take five talented, local players from tryouts and invite them to training camp.

“We’re narrowing,” he said. “We are at a place right now where we are probably going to make cuts probably after this scrimmage, with the goal of reducing down to half, then getting half of that group and ultimately ending the practice with 10-12 guys if interested.”

Williams, along with Sixers GM Sam Hinkie, will talk after the tryouts have concluded and decide which players are the best fit for the team.

“We will investigate, make sure each one of these players is somebody that fits the criteria for a local tryout player,” Williams said.
