John Mayberry Jr. just may have earned himself a start when the Phillies and Marlins wrap up their three-game series on Wednesday.

The Phillies were down to their final three outs against the Marlins Tuesday night when Mayberry stepped to the plate to lead off the bottom of the 10th.

Mayberry, who had entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh, crushed a 2-2 pitch from Marlins relief pitcher Steve Cishek over the center-field wall to tie the game, 3-3.

Mayberry was not done, though.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 11th, Mayberry smoked a line drive over the left-field wall for a game-ending, walk-off grand slam.

For the Phillies (29-30), the extra-innings 7-3 win was their third straight victory. They will look to reach the .500 mark Wednesday afternoon in the series finale against Miami (16-43). Cole Hamels, who is 1-9 on the season, is scheduled to face the Marlins’ Jacob Turner.

Phillies rookie right-hander Jonathan Pettibone was effective once again Tuesday night, allowing just two runs on seven hits over six innings. Reliever Michael Stutes, who pitched a scoreless 11th inning, picked up the win.

Domonic Brown, who had hit nine home runs in his previous 10 games, was hitless on the night, going 0 for 5.
