Report: MLB launches PED investigation
The bell may toll for 20 baseball players connected to a Miami clinic supplying performance-enhancing drugs, according to ESPN. It would be the largest doping scandal in American sports history.
Major League Baseball is investigating several marquee players, like Ryan Braun and Alex Rodriguez, and could serve up 100-game suspensions if they are proven guilty.
“The Players Association has every interest in both defending the rights of players and in defending the integrity of our joint program. We trust that the Commissioner’s Office shares these interests,” said union executive director Michael Weiner in a statement.
Tony Bosch, the founder of Biogenesis of America, has agreed to assist with MLB’s investigation. He has previously denied suspected drug distribution.
MLB officials refused comment, according to ESPN. Braun was scratched from the Brewers’ lineup last night, but a team spokesman said it wasn’t related to the investigation.
