Stephen Drew, Red Sox situation remains unresolved
Free agent shortstop Stephen Drew remains without a team with spring training under way across the majors.
WEEI.com’s Alex Speier reported Wednesday that the Red Sox have “not been engaged in substantive talks (with Drew) since the opening of camp” last week. The New York Mets were thought to be the other team extremely interested in signing Drew since late in 2013 but Mets GM Sandy Alderson said on Feb. 13 that it was “unlikely” the Mets would sign Drew. FOX Sports also recently reported that Drew may wait until June to sign with a team.
The Red Sox are moving forward as if Xander Bogaerts will be the every day solution at shortstop.
“I feel good about him,” Red Sox manager John Farrell told WEEI.com. “I think his movements have become a little more efficient, particularly with his first step quickness. That lends to added range at the position … More than anything, he’s getting to know a feel for the game at the major league level.”
