MLB video highlights: Twins walk-off over Red Sox, 8-6

David Ortiz did everything he could Tuesday night to beat his former team, but he couldn’t do it all.

After coming back from a four-run deficit, the Red Sox eventually fell victim to a walk-off home run by Chris Parmelee off reliever Andrew Miller in the bottom of the ninth giving the Twins an 8-6 victory.

Ortiz went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI in the loss being instrumental in the Sox comeback bid. Trailing 6-2 going into the sixth, the Red Sox scored once in the sixth and three times in the seventh to tie the game at six before eventually falling in the ninth. Shane Victorino had a productive night as well going 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Red Sox got themselves in a hole due to a poor start from Jake Peavy as the right-hander went 4 1/3 innings allowing six runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one. The second inning proved costly as Peavy allowed five runs, including a home run and he has now allowed a home run in each of his eight starts to open the season.

Chris Capuano, Craig Breslow and Junichi Tazawa combined for 3 2/3 of scoreless relief innings before Miller allowed the homer in the ninth.

The teams will be back at it Wednesday night (8:10, NESN) where Felix Doubront will take on Kevin Correla.

What they’ll be saying: The game will be remembered for the Red Sox comeback, but it’s hard to celebrate a comeback when the team doesn’t win the game. As always the Sox didn’t give up and fought back from 5-1 and 6-2 deficits on the back of Ortiz, who always enjoys facing his former team. As a team the Sox bottom of the order didn’t produce much at all Tuesday as hitters No. 6-9 went a combined 2-for-16 with seven strikeouts … The outing for Peavy could’ve been a lot worse as he managed to pitch into the fifth after allowing the five second inning runs. It always seems like there is always a rough inning for the veteran in all of his starts, but other than one inning a game he’s been very good besides from the number of walks allowed.
