Celtics’ Rondo-less run comes to an end in loss to Charlotte

If there was one team in the NBA that the Celtics could lose to to pump the brakes on the ever-growing “they’re-better-without-Rajon-Rondo” storyline, it would be the Charlotte Bobcats.

Boston fans will indeed be rethinking those sentiments after the Celtics fell to the 12-39 ‘Cats, 94-91, Monday night in Charlotte. In the process, the C’s lost guard Leandro Barbosa to a knee injury. Barbosa, who had seen increased minutes after Rondo went down with his injury two weeks ago, will have an MRI Tuesday.

Charlotte’s Byron Mullens had a career night with 25 points and 18 rebounds. Kevin Garnett had 16 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

What they’ll be saying: The Celtics appeared to finally run out of steam Monday night in dropping their first game since the Rondo injury on Jan. 27. The Barbosa injury, which Doc Rivers hinted was very serious, is likely another crushing blow to the Celtics slim chances at making a run in the Eastern Conference.
