Davis tip-in dooms Celtics

Lou Amundson and the Hornets beat the Celtics for the second time this season.
Lou Amundson and the Hornets beat the Celtics for the second time this season.

New Orleans’ Anthony Davis tipped in an Eric Gordon miss to beat the buzzer Wednesday night at New Orleans Arena as the Hornets swept the season series from the Celtics with an 87-86 victory.

The Celtics (36-31) scored just 12 points in the third quarter after having their way with the Hornets throughout much of the first half. Ryan Anderson had a team-high 21 points for the Hornets and Paul Pierce led the C’s with 28. Kevin Garnett returned from injury/sickness and posted 20 points.

What they’ll be saying: The C’s had plenty of opportunity to win this one down the stretch and had an 84-81 lead late in the fourth. Not being able to close out a game like this against an inferior opponent like New Orleans (23-46) is cause for a little concern. The Celtics are now 12-21 on the road this season.
