Celtics refrain from deal at NBA trade deadline

There was great buzz regarding the Celtics in the early hours of the NBA trade deadline Thursday. If you’re a fan of chaos relating to Boston basketball, the day was a dud.

The Celtics were one of the favorites across the league to make a swap, with players like Brandon Bass, Jeff Green and Kris Humphries seemingly ready to be shipped to help out a contender. But Boston’s president of basketball operations Danny Ainge stood pat and the 19-36 C’s will head to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers Friday (10:30 p.m., CSNNE) with the same team that was intact in Wednesday night’s loss to Phoenix.

The Celtics currently own the seventh worst record in the league, but are also just six games behind Charlotte for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Bobcats seemingly improved on deadline day, acquiring guards Gary Neal and Luke Ridnour from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for guard Ramon Sessions and forward Jeff Adrien.

The Pacers and Sixers swung the biggest deal on deadline day, as forward Danny Granger will wind up in Philly and swingman Evan Turner will head to the East-leading Pacers.
