Glen Mills company creating new jobs

Unequal Technologies, the company responsible for outfitting Mike Vick with Kevlar padding, opened its new corporate headquarters Tuesday in Glen Mills.

Among those in attendance were Gov. Tom Corbett and Super Bowl MVP Kurt Warner. The former NFL star will represent the company’s “Play It Safe” program, which claims it can reduce the severity index or risk of football injuries by up to 50 percent.

“Unequal’s mission is simple and a calling I can support: protecting soldiers on the battlefield and athletes on the playing field,” Warner said. “For me, this partnership is about being a responsible parent and an advocate for the sport of football.”

In addition to protecting young athletes, Unequal anticipates creating 200 new jobs for the state of Pennsylvania within three years. Rob Vito, founder and CEO of Unequal, started the company back in 2008. Thousands of professional and amateur athletes use the brand today.

The company is also working with Pop Warner football to secure a recommendation that Unequal be added to every Pop Warner participant’s helmet.

“Pennsylvania will always be home for Unequal,” said Vito. “This is where we first launched our company as a military and law enforcement supplier, where we first broke into sports protection by building Eagles players custom gear, where we first launched in retail with Schuylkill Valley Sports, and where we’re excited to launch our pilot Play It Safe initiative.”
