Patriots stun Browns, 27-26, with thrilling comeback

The Patriots went through a wide range of emotions Sunday as their best offensive player not named Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, may have been lost for the season due to injury. Over an hour later, the Pats were celebrating one of the more improbable victories in recent franchise history, as they found a way to come back from a 26-14 deficit despite having just 2:39 to do so, in a 27-26 win at Gillette Stadium.

Tom Brady found Julian Edelman in the back of the end zone to cut the lead to 26-21 and the Pats recovered a Stephen Gostkowski onside kick with 1:01 remaining. Josh Boyce drew a pass inference penalty on the Pats second play from scrimmage following the onside kick recovery, giving New England prime real estate from the Cleveland 1-yard line. Brady hit Danny Amendola for a 1-yard touchdown to give the Pats the lead with 31 seconds remaining.

Cleveland used the 31 seconds well and set-up kicker Billy Cundiff for a 58-yard game-winning kick. Cundiff’s kick was on target, but it fell just short as the Pats came up with their 10th win of the season.

Gronkowski was injured in the third quarter when he was hit in the knee by Cleveland’s T.J. Ward. Gronkowski will have an MRI on the knee Monday.
