Rob Gronkowski tears ACL and MCL, will miss rest of season
The worst news coming out of Sundays win over the Browns for the Patriots was confirmed Monday morning as tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss the remainder of the 2013 season with a torn ACL and MCL.
Cleveland safety T.J. Ward hit Gronkowski in the knee in the third quarter after the tight end hauled in a pass from Tom Brady.
“Obviously we, unfortunately, had to play without Rob in the beginning of the season,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said about the team’s plans at tight end for the rest of the year. “We’ve dealt with that already.”
Matthew Mulligan saw time at tight end after Gronkowski left the field on a cart Sunday. Michael Hoomanawanui will likely see increased playing time and multiple reports said Monday that the team will re-sign tight end D.J. Williams.
