State Police: 495 crash in Wrentham kills two

A single car crash on Rte 495 southbound in Wrentham killed two early Monday.

Massachusetts State Police responded to the crash, which happened before Exit 15, around 12:20 a.m. Two people who were in the car were pronounced dead at the scene, while a third was taken to a local hospital by helicopter.

Police say the car struck a guardrail and was then engulfed in flames.

The crash remains under investigation and details were scarce Monday morning. State Police have not yet offered an explanation for the accident. The identities of the dead have not yet been released and police did not say what kind of car was involved in the crash.

The crash closed down the southbound side of the highway between Exits 15 and 16 for several hours. All lanes were open by 4 a.m.
