Watch the blizzard strike in Boston

The blizzard hit Boston a little later than expected Tuesday morning, with heavy snowfall and gale force winds hitting the city around 11 a.m.

Despite the slow start to the storm, winds were reaching speeds in excess of 50 mph and snowfall is expected to accumulate throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service. As much as a foot could fall. Coastal flooding could when high tide hits at 1:25 p.m.

Most trains and public transportation was up and running Tuesday, despite most businessses and public offices being closed.

Shuttle buses replaced the Mattapan trolley and the commuter rail was operating at about one-third its usual capacity, but all other buses and the T were operating on normal schedules, with no issues to report as of midday, according to the MBTA’s site.
