A teacher has been hospitalized for evaluation after police said he stripped and ran naked through the elementary school where he worked on Tuesday afternoon.

The male gym teacher, whose identity has not been released, allegedly took off all his clothes and ran around Rice Square Elementary in Worcester, police said in a Boston Globe report.

Officials in Worcester said the teacher, who was with students, began behaving oddly, leading the principal to place students in lockdown, WHDH stated. After his erratic behavior, the teacher left school property.

"The staff member became very agitated and volatile," a message from the school district to parents was quoted by WHDH.

Police later apprehended the teacher off campus and took him to a hospital for an evaluation of his mental health, school safety liaison Robert F. Pezzella said to the Telegram & Gazette.
