Atlanta zoo names baby cockroach after Tom Brady

Zoo Atlanta is making the best out of losing their Super Bowl bet.

The zoo made a bet with New England counterpart Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, that the losing side in the big game would name one of their baby animals after the winning team’s star quarterback. Well, we all know how that turned out.

So on Monday, Zoo Atlanta introduced Tom Brady, the newest member of their family. But if you think there’s a little panda bear or penguin scurrying around with Brady’s namesake, guess again.

Zoo Atlanta named a baby Madagascar hissing cockroach after the Patriots quarterback.

“Our littlest baby of them all: I would like to introduce Tom Brady,” a zookeeper announced in a Facebook video Monday.

For the Patriots fans ready to grab their pitchforks, don’t put all the blame on Zoo Atlanta. The two zoos decided which baby animal would don the name long before the scores were settled on Feb. 5, when the Pats beat the Falcons, 34-28 in overtime.

“Figuring the losing side would be pretty bitter about it, we came to the agreement that baby animal would be a Madagascar hissing cockroach,” a zookeeper from Zoo Atlanta said.
