The Salem Witch Trials never cease to fascinate and Stacy Schiff’s buzzy book about a winter in 1692 when 19 people were hanged for practicing witchcraft will have you mesmerized. Excerpted in The New Yorker earlier this month, Schiff extensively researched real life witch trials from this time-period and writes engrossing first-person accounts of their lives. you won’t believe these stories are true — but they are.
