Unseen Art project aims to recreate classic paintings in 3D

Now, art-lovers can enjoy classical masterpieces – with their hands. The Unseen Art project aims to recreate famous paintings, such as the Mona Lisa, as 3D-printed models so that the blind can experience the art through touch. The Finnish team behind the initiative are currently crowd funding on Indiegogo.

“Oh, so this is what it’s like! This is really waking up my curiosity. This is super exciting, a true game changer,” saysRiikka Hänninen, who has been blind since birth.

The Unseen Art is looking to raise $30,000 in a crowd funding campaign. They hope to raise this money to create an online repository where 3D artists can contribute their interpretations of 3D art, and anyone in the world can download them for free and print them off where there is a 3D printer.
