Dive In/Drink Up Gowanus
Aug. 15, 5 p.m.
Various Locations
Gowanus, Brooklyn
Prices vary, 718-541-4378
www.gowanuscanalconservancy.org
It’s Friday night and you’re feeling brave. Why not dive into the grime and slime we call the Gowanus Canal? Seriously though, don’t do that. But definitely indulge in the food and wine scene that makes the Gowanus Watershed area so appealing to foodies and drinkers alike. Participants include al di la, applewood, Dassara Brooklyn Ramen and Dinosaur BBQ. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Gowanus Canal Conservancy, helping to fund their STEM-Education Program, Composting Program, and Clean & Green Volunteer Program.

Jazz Age Lawn Party
Aug. 16-17, 11 a.m.
Governors Island
$35, 646-543-8699
www.jazzagelawnparty.com
If you missed it earlier this summer — or just didn’t get enough — Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra return for one more weekend of partying like it’s 1925 on Governors Island. Dress your flapper best and take in dance lessons and contests, a car exhibition, vintage portraits … but who needs activities while the city parades its finery all around you? Bring a picnic (no alcohol) or get period-style grub curated by Jimmy No. 43.

Summer Streets 2014
Aug. 16, 7 a.m.
Park Avenue, Manhattan
Free, 212-639-9675
www.nyc.gov
From Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, seven miles of NYC streets will be blocked off for pedestrians to run, walk, bike, take a salsa dancing lesson, eat healthy snacks, climb a 25′ wall, fly through the air on a 160′ zipline and explore a 179-year-old voice tunnel. Sorry drivers, you’re in the wrong city anyway.

Madonnathon
Aug. 16, 8 p.m.
Brooklyn Bowl
61 Wythe Ave., Williamsburg
$15, 718-963-3369
www.brooklynbowl.com
Eleven years of voguing and Madonnathoning is going to burst Brooklyn Bowl at the seams of this tribute show and dance party. Which era of Madonna is your favorite? Dress up and get into the groove as the virgin bride, lucky star, peepshow dancer, geisha glam, cone bra & ponytail, urban cowgirl, Evita, material girl or that English accent phase Madonna, and who knows? You may end up on stage and winning prizes.

McDonald’s B-Boy Royale
Aug. 16, 7 p.m.
NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts
566 LaGuardia Place
$15-$20, 212-992-8484
www.mcdonaldsnytristate.com
McDonald’s rolls out the linoleum welcome mat for NYC’s largest breakdance competition, with eight award-winning dance crews from all over the States going at it in a tournament for a chance to win $3,000. Some cool crew names: Suicide Kingz, Lionz of Zion and Del Fuego Wolfpack, who clearly forgot to put a z anywhere in their name.
