The Word: Alanis Morissette’s old nanny is suing her

Looks like Alanis Morissette is going to have to put one hand in her pocket and pony up some serious cash (see what I did there?), because she’s being sued by a former employee.

According to TMZ, the one-time nanny for Morisette’s son Ever (Ever? What is he, some kind of wood nymph?) has filed a suit that essentially accuses the angsty ‘90s singer of holding her hostage. Bianca Cambeiro claims that, while charged with taking care of the newborn baby, she was forced to remain in the child’s room for the entirety of a 12-hour long shift and wasn’t allowed to leave to even use the bathroom or eat a meal.

I’d love to make some sort of “isn’t this ironic” joke but, um, there’s nothing ironic about menacing a woman on your payroll into remaining — hungry and with a bursting bladder — in a room in your home for 12 straight hours. What that is, is crazy. And criminal. Which makes me want to make a joke about Fiona Apple who was not involved but also sang angsty songs in the ‘90s.

F’real, though, this is going to be one jagged little pill for Morissette to swallow, if the nanny wins $130,000 she’s suing for. Phew, brought that one back full circle.
