VIDEO: Aziz Ansari on stereotypes

Comedian Aziz Ansari says he tries to stray away from generalizations about race and gender, but he feels “pretty confident about this one.” Ansari’s claim? “Black dudes are blown away by magic tricks.”

In a clip from his upcoming Netflix special, “Buried Alive,” Ansari admitted that it’s possible not all black men are blown away by magic tricks, but until he sees visual evidence, he’s sticking to his story.

The “Parks and Recreation” actor praised “black dudes” for their enthusiasm for magic. He demonstrated how he thinks black men react when they see a magic trick, which is to hop and scream, “That’s amazing!”

“That’s a beautiful way to treat things in life,” said Ansari. “Do you realize how much better the world would be if we all just treated each other the same way black dudes treat magicians?”

Ansari’s stand-up took a slightly serious turn as he pointed out that society would be better if homophobic people could act toward gay people the way black men act toward magicians, and he invited audience members to test out his theory sometime.
