Bernadette Peters will be coming to City Center in November to headline an Encores! Special Event titled “A Bed and a Chair: A New York Love Affair.” This show highlights, miraculously, both the music/lyrics of Stephen Sondheim and arrangement by acclaimed jazz musician Wynton Marsalis. Now that’s a classy night.

Running Nov. 13-17, this production is the second collaboration between New York City Center and Jazz at Lincoln Center (which Marsalis presently manages). The Nov. 14 show will be the annual City Center Gala Benefit, with a dinner to follow at the Plaza Hotel. If you can manage to add this to your calendar just a week after scoring tickets to see Patti LuPone at Carnegie Hall, your Broadway diva bingo card will get a healthy perk.

“A Bed and a Chair: A New York Love Affair” also features acclaimed jazz singer Cyrille Aimee, Broadway star Meg Gillentine (“Fosse,” “Cats”) and triple threat Tyler Hanes. It’s directed by John Doyle and choreographed by Peter Gethers. The concept comes from the creative business minds of Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle.

Tickets start at $30 and can be bought at the New York City Center Box Office (West 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues), or at www.nycitycenter.org. Gala Benefit tickets can be purchased by visiting www.nycitycenter.org/gala.
