Boston Music Awards announce this year’s nominees

Now that we’ve got that World Series win in our pocket, this town can go back to focusing another of its favorite pastimes: the cultivation of — and exchange of differing of opinions about — our music scene.

Because the ballots are in and, after a delay due to respect for that big baseball series that was going on last week (or, more likely, an acknowledgement of the fact that literally nobody in this town was paying attention to anything else, so why bother), the Boston Music Awards have released this year’s nominees. Wahoo!

There are a lot of familiar players on the ballot this year. Local darlings like Bearstronaut, The Field Effect, Kingsley Flood and Young Adults share space with veteran Boston rockers like Aerosmith (but let’s not give Rock Artist of the Year to Steven Tyler and company when they’re up against a band like Mean Creek,OK you guys?) and the Dropkicks. And yeah, Amanda Palmer.

Some new names making the grade include recently resurrected website Vanyaland (the project of former music editor of the now-defunct Boston Phoenix Michael Marotta) for Best Music Blog and The Sinclair for Best Live Music Venue.

I’m calling bulls— on the Mighty Mighty Bosstones for Best Punk Act but maybe it’s been a slow year for punk around here.

If you’re going to check out all the venues, bands, DJs, ongoing residencies, etc. before casting an informed vote, you’d better get busy — voting closes Dec. 2 at 11:59 p.m.

You can check out the full list of nominees at BostonMusicAwards.com. Follow the BMAs on Twitter attwitter.com/BMAs_Boston.

The awards go down Dec. 8 at the Liberty Hotel.

And GO.
