What a week for superstars joining Twitter a little late in the game! First it was Prince! And now we just received an email from Bruce Springsteen’s publicity company with the subject, “Bruce Springsteen tweets.”
Big deal, we thought, we’ve been following this 60-something rock legend for a while. For about 1,648 tweets, we thought. In fact, we were proud to have even had one of our own tweets “favorited” by the Boss. Yes, he has only favorited 13 tweets, and one of them was ours. It was wonderful to just imagine the Boss on his tour bus in Europe, reclining in some fancy chair, likely being massaged by either the chair itself or a full-time E Street masseuse, as he scrolled through his iPad and said, “Oh, cool! Pat Healy did a podcast about a gig I played with Bob Marley 40 years ago! I’ll listen to this, as I always love listening to anything Pat Healy does, including his weird-ass ukulele tribute to me. And ya know what? I’m not just gonna listen to this podcast, but I’m gonna favorite this tweet, dammmmmitt! Because I’m Bruce Springsteen and I tweet all the time, and I don’t favorite many things, but I’m gonna do this right now!”
And BAM! The following image appeared in our inbox.
That’s cool. We’re just one of the few favorites of the Boss! Don’t make fun of us for being awake at 6:30. We work around the clock here at Metro.
But then, we received this email from his publicist:
Hi – Bruce Springsteen just posted his first-ever Tweet.
“Bruce here… looking forward to seeing friends in Chile, Argentina & Brazil on tour next month. Any requests?”
Maybe that was his first tweet, but it wasn’t his first favorite? Yeah, that’s what we’ll go with. Keep on tweeting, Bruce! Follow the Boss (or somebody who frequently posts as him) at @springsteen.
