Caitlyn Jenner, Olympic gold medalist, trans public figure and professed conservative, is in some hot water over her beliefs regarding government welfare.
The most recent episode of "I Am Cait" touched contained a discussion among Caitlyn and her friends on the necessity of government welfare for transwomen.
Jenner, a professed conservative, vocalized her view against government social services which clashed with the views of her friends.
“Don't a lot of times — they can make more not working, with social programs, than they actually can with an entry-level job,” Jenner says while her friends discuss why trans women need support from the government.
“I’d say the great majority of people who are getting help, are getting help ‘cause they need help,” a friend counters.
“'You don't want people to get totally dependent on it. That's when they get in trouble. ‘Why should I work? I got a few bucks, I got my room paid for,"' Jenner finishes.
Jenner has made a great deal of progress in her goal to become a voice and public figure for the trans community. Her conservatism, however, runs counter to the majority beliefs of the rest of the community she strives to represent.
“Caitlyn has every right to be just as conservative as she chooses, but many trans men and women need social programs to survive and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Living in the bubble is an impediment to understanding other people,” activist Jenny Boylan says in an interview separate from the conservation.
“If Cait’s going to be a spokesperson for our community this is something she’s going to have to understand.”
