Cate Blanchett has won the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of a riches-to-rags socialite in Woody Allen's tragic comedy "Blue Jasmine."
The Australian actress was a favorite in the category and beat out fellow nominees Amy Adams for "American Hustle," Sandra Bullock for "Gravity," Judi Dench for "Philomena" and Meryl Streep for "August: Osage County."
Blanchett, 44, previously won an Academy Award for her role in "The Aviator."
She also won the award for Best Actress at the 2014 BAFTAs recently. She dedicated the award to actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who died of an apparent drugs overdose two weeks ago.
