Were you the one of the 19.2 million people that appreciated Ed Sheeran’s Twitter? Bad news, friends. He’s officially quit the app after being impolitely trolled by some of Lady Gaga’s fans. Rude!
As the 26-year-old revealed to The Sun, he’s no longer active on the social media platform. Because meanies! “I’ve actually come off Twitter completely. I can’t read it,” the singer-songwriter said. “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. One comment ruins your day. The head—k for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much.”
The reason why people on the social media platform dislike him so much might go back to some comments he made earlier this year. According to E! News, fans of Lady Gaga have been trolling Sheeran ever since he gave an interview on Beats Radio 1 with Zane Lowe. “I do not want to be the kind of artist who has two successful albums and then feels invincible,” Sheeran said then. “I have to know when to listen to people, or I’ll end up like those artists you’ve interviewed in recent years. You’ve seen them become the biggest artists in the world, and then suddenly they will say, ‘I know everything!’ And just after, they are no longer at the top.
“The smartest thing to do is listen to people who know I do not want to do the Super Bowl years later, after my biggest success, just to prove I’m still relevant.” Burn! I think. It’s unclear.
Anyway, Sheeran didn’t name names, exactly, but Gaga’s fans took issue with his statements. And the “Shape of You” singer noticed. “Lady Gaga’s fan base read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f—cking hate. And it wasn’t anything to do with that at all,” he told The Sun. “So, I think Twitter gets on a massive steam roll of assuming things and then you get in the s—t.”
Oh, poor thing. It’s hard to get made fun of and called names. But, I don’t know. At least he’s rich and successful? Which surely his trolls are not. Success is the best revenge, bb! So like, keep being successful and stupid rich.
