Well, that was fast. Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have reportedly broken up, calling off their engagement after a year and a half of dating. Theron, according to Us Weekly‘s sources, was apparently the one to do the dumping following the couple’s latest jaunt to Cannes. Figures. A previously marriage-averse star comes out of a nearly decade-long relationship (to Stuart Townsend), jumps into a new one and then is engaged in practically no time? Those are not what some in the head-shrinking profession would call stable, long-term decision-making conditions. Also, Penn was super open and effusive about the relationship (by his standards) in the press, so you just knew something was up. Still, tough break, kids.
