Daryl Hannah, star of "Kill Bill," "Splash," and pretty much the entire 80s, is autistic, she has revealed.
The actress was diagnosed with autism as a child, and she struggled with "debilitating shyness" throughout her career. She fought to hide her condition from her Hollywood employers, and often refused to give interviews and make promotional appearances, “not because I was above it, but because I was terrified.”
Hannah says she's doing better now. She spends much of her time on environmental activism and has a boyfriend, a farm, and a pet pig. "I’ve learned a couple of things that really would’ve made my life easier if I’d known them 20 years ago," she told People.
"I wasted so much time scared, self-conscious and insecure."
It's remarkable to hear a star talk so openly about this kind of mental illness - though autism has become something of a buzzword in the last few years, it's still surprising to hear a star admit they have it. It seems like only yesterday that it seemed that stars only suffered from two things: Exhaustion and dehydration.
