Dave Chappelle calls Prince’s death “black 9/11”

The ever elusive Dave Chappelle understandably took the loss of Prince pretty hard. And this weekend the icon’s death nearly made him miss a show in San Francisco.

“I almost thought about not coming tonight, but my band was like, ‘Yo, Prince would definitely not condone that,’” Chappelle told the crowd, according to SFGate, calling Prince’s passing “the black 9/11” — and usually I’d take him to task for a hyperbole violation, but he kind of has a point this time.

“It’s so much better that we grieve together,” Chappelle said.He’s got a point.
